Spanish Civil War photo-archive now online

Through an interesting article at ThinkSpain, comes a link to an online archive of more than 3,000 photographs 'comprising the so-called 'Rojo File' which documents life in Madrid during the Spanish Civil War', and which has just been made available by the Ministry of Culture here.

As is indicated in the ThinkSpain article, the 'Rojo File' was used both for anti-Fascist propaganda purposes and later to allow the Fascist regime to hunt down its enemies. I've had a look at some of the photographs and the files are reasonably easy to navigate, even for someone whose Spanish is as patchy as mine is - I have no doubt, however, that it is a valuable archival resource which will interest many Spaniards and interested foreigners. I hope that sufficient time has elapsed so that the undoubted high emotions of those days will not be heightened anew.
