Sweet and snack machines to be banned from Murcia schools

From the beginning of the next school term, sweet and snack machines are to be banned from schools in the Murcia region, a pioneering move for Spain. Apparently 30 per cent of children in Murcia are considered overweight and only 51 per cent of Murcians do physical activities, lower than the 61 per cent national average. Furthermore, 10 per cent of Murcia residents suffer from diabetes.

I used to consume a lot of sugary drinks and sweets myself, and had done so since childhood, but about 6 years ago I stopped and the benefits in improvements in my health have been enormous; I hope Spanish parents will not undermine this change by giving their children the money to buy these items elsewhere, except as special treats (and not as a daily routine).
