Seventh swine-flu death in Spain

The seventh death of an Influenza-A ('swine-flu') sufferer in Spain occurred yesterday in Albacete, the first in Castilla-La Mancha. The latest victim was a man of 34 years who was admitted with flu-like symptoms on 12th July and has been in a 'grave condition' since then, finally succumbing yesterday at 14.00 hours. The family of the victim have declined to permit the hospital to provide further clinical information about the deceased.

Although this is the first fatality in Castilla-La Mancha it is a fact that Almansa (Albacete) was the location of the first case of 'swine-flu' in Spain and indeed the first notified case in the European Union. At that time there were also two other cases of 'swine-flu' infection reported in Castilla-La Mancha. All these may be coincidences, however, as there is no indication that cross-infection from those already infected may have impacted on yesterday's fatality.
