Toll motorway charges in Spain are to fall by 0.6% in 2016

(Please see UPDATE at end)

It is being reported by industry sources, in newspaper articles published today, that toll motorway fees in Spain are to fall by 0.6% in 2016, the first fall in at least 15 years. There are no details yet of how this will affect specific sectors in the toll motorway network; usually such detailed information becomes available only during January.

According to data released by the Ministry of Development (Ministerio de Fomento) up until the month of October traffic in the toll motorway network has increased by 6.38% (17,759 vehicles) per day, and it is hoped that the reduction in toll fees will help to further the recovery in traffic experienced since the financial crisis hit the country about 8 years ago causing toll motorway traffic to fall substantially. The fall in toll fees is a result of the application of a formula for automatic annual toll fee adjustments agreed with the government in 2002. Further details of how this formula operates are in the linked articles (see 'sources' below).

It may be recalled that for 2015 it was agreed to freeze most toll fees at the rates applying in 2014 (my article published in January 2015 about this is here).

UPDATE (31DEC2015 18.05 GMT) Full details of the revised tariff for 2016 for the AP-7 Cartagena-Vera toll motorway are now available. The tariff reduction is minor, generally 5 or 10 Euro-cents and in a few cases the tariff for 2016 remains at 2015 levels. The full tariff for 2016 may be downloaded from the Aucosta website here (.PDF document). Abridged details of the new tariff may be viewed in relevant pages of my own Spanish website, for example here (scroll to the bottom of the page).
